CHEYENNE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The founders of Cheyenne Children’s Museum (in Cheyenne, WY) connected with BrownKnows Design when the project was in its earliest planning stages. They wanted a space that would offer children and caregivers a wide variety of activities and learning experiences, while highlighting some natural features of the Wyoming landscape and the spirit of the region. The Museum’s initial exhibits opened in 2024.

CCM needed a space to accommodate donated exhibit components as well as new custom installations.

The multi-level "The Sky's the Limit" climber makes great use of space and provides lots of options for play and exploration.

The climber features a wheelchair lift that makes it possible for anyone to reach the upper level.

An outdoor patio highlights Wyoming's fame as a site for paleontology digs!

The custom dino climber frame was welded and covered with special concrete products.

Children can dig to uncover permanent molded dino "bones."

The maple Quiet Fort provides seating and a calm oasis in the center of activity.

Regional artists created interactive and multi-textured panels and nook that line the interior of the Quiet Fort.

Wind is plentiful on the flat plains of Wyoming, and the Museum chose to celebrate its power in multiple ways.

Scarves and other light objects can be inserted into the wooden portals, to be transported by wind to one of the exit points.

Explorers adjust the wind flow with flaps that divert the scarves to flutter out of multiple exit points.

The unique Vedawoo rock formations nearby provided inspiration for the play zone designed just for the youngest visitors.

Soft matting, a tunnel, a low slide, and a wavy walk promote safe large-motor skills development.

The Vedawoo Tot Spot fence is lined with plexiglass, keeping little ones safe while providing excellent visibility for caregivers outside of the zone.

Mirrors, knobs, and artist-created "soft rocks" entertain toddlers safely.

The fan-powered Wind Tunnel vortex is an exciting physics experiment.

An additional accessible Air Play station makes use of under-used wall space.

BKD designed and fabricated maple & acrylic interlocking gears for the lobby that allow the Museum to honor different financial donor levels.

BKD also designed and fabricated the lobby Welcome Desk to complement the smooth maple of the interior exhibits.
